This webinar will discuss the status of legalized marijuana across the country. States laws vary significantly on issues such as whether employers may test employees or applicants for marijuana, whether employees can be fired for testing positive for marijuana, and whether an employer must accommodate medical marijuana use by a qualified individual with a disability. This webinar will cover all of these issues and more.
Course Objectives:
• Which states have legalized marijuana for recreational use? For medicinal use?
• How does legalized marijuana affect employers’ ability to test applicants and employees in connection with their drug-free workplace policies?
• How should employers enforce or revise their policies in order to maintain a drug-free workplace?
• How should employers treat off-duty use of marijuana in states where recreational use is permitted?
• How do states’ fair employment laws with respect to disability discrimination and accommodation affect employers as they apply and enforce their drug-free workplace policies?
Why Should You Attend:
Many states are enacting various levels of marijuana legalization, particularly with respect to either medical or recreational use, or both. It is important for employers to understand the state laws impacting their employees. Employers must also understand their obligations in these states when applying their drug testing policies to applicants and employees.
