Many employers regularly use artificial intelligence and automated systems to make employment decisions such as hiring and firing. Some of these tools include resume scanners, chat bots, and video interviews. However, many of these tools have potential to create unlawful bias. The EEOC has created an initiative, “Navigating Employment Discrimination in AI & Automated systems: A New Civil Rights Frontier,” to evaluate whether these tools comply with federal and civil rights laws.
